Gracious God, today I bring France Gelinas to You and ask
that you would pour your love, mercy and strength into her life as she
endeavors to represent the people of the Nickel Belt. I ask Lord that you would cause her to know
that in all situations of life, you are there to bring comfort and stamina to
fulfill the tasks she has to do. May the
people of her riding find that she cares about each one, and has been blessed
to be a blessing to others. May you
cause her home to be a sacred place of refuge and refreshment. Amen.
France Gélinas is a resident of the City of Greater Sudbury, health care professional, and community leader.
France started her career in Sudbury at Laurentian Hospital, now part of Health Sciences North as a physiotherapist. After graduating from Laurentian University with a Masters in Business Administration, she became a health care administrator. Before being elected MPP in 2007, France worked as the Executive Director of the Community Health Centre in Sudbury. Under her leadership the Centre expanded to many small and rural communities in the northeast, opened the Corner Clinic serving the homeless population, and became the lead agency for the Sudbury Homelessness Network.
As Nickel Belt’s representative at Queen’s Park, France has taken the lead on health and healthcare issues. She has introduced and worked on many bills designed to: make restaurant menus more transparent, end the sale of flavoured tobacco products, ban tanning beds for youth, and bring Ombudsman oversight to the health care system of Ontario, to name just a few.
An experienced community leader with a track record of standing up for Northern Ontario, you can count on France Gélinas to get results for Nickel Belt.
France and her spouse Keith Harris have three children and six grandchildren. She is also a bush pilot, a competitive rower, and an avid snowboarder.
