MPP Sylvia Jones - Dufferein-Caledon

We want to lift up Sylvia Jones to You and ask for your hand of favour to rest on her. We thank You that she desires to see real change in the lives of Ontarians and so we pray that she continue to have creative wisdom and insight as to how to make our province better. We ask that she not only lead with confidence but may Your heart and mandate be echoed in how her heart is drawn to lead. We pray that she not only lead, but develop and raise up leaders who will carry the torch of change that You have placed in her heart. Amen

On June 12, Sylvia Jones was elected to a third term as Dufferin-Caledon’s MPP. The riding of Dufferin-Caledon includes the County of Dufferin and the Town of Caledon. The area is home to multiple towns and villages including Orangeville, Bolton, Shelburne, and Grand Valley among others.

Sylvia was first elected as the MPP for Dufferin-Caledon on October 10, 2007. Sylvia served as PC Critic for the Ministry of Community and Social Services, and in 2009, PC Leader Tim Hudak gave Sylvia the added responsibility of Critic for the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Her private member’s Bill 94, which would have ensured that Ontario Disability Support Program payments could not be clawed back as a result of Registered Disability Support Program contributions, was eventually adopted by the Liberal government through regulation.

After her 2011 re-election, Sylvia was appointed to serve as Deputy House Leader and Critic of Government Services. In May of 2012, Sylvia was appointed as the PC Critic for the Ministry of the Attorney General and the PC Caucus Chair, and most recently served exclusively as PC Caucus Chair. Sylvia introduced two private member’s bills in the second session of the 40th Parliament. Bill 38, the Helping Volunteers Give Back Act, would have allowed for volunteers to use an annual criminal record check for multiple volunteer organizations if it had been enacted. This would have made it easier for people to volunteer for multiple causes.

Sylvia has been an active member of the all-party Select Committee on Developmental Services, formed to find solutions to the crisis caused by the lack of services available to people and families with a developmental disability.

Sylvia and her husband David have lived in Dufferin County for 25 years, and are the proud parents of two children.
