MPP: Hon. Liz Sandals - Guelph

As Honourable Sandals has just recently had a change of responsibility, we ask You for the ability to embrace the challenges of her new portfolio with wisdom and integrity. May she readily gain in understanding of the complex issues  as President of the Treasury Board. We pray for the physical stamina needed  to accomplish what is for the best in our province. Premier Wynne appointed Liz Sandals as Minister of Education on February 11, 2013. Liz Sandals has served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Ministers of Health and Long-Term Care, Transportation, Education, Government Services, and Community Safety and Correctional Services. She led the government’s Safe Schools Action Team and served on the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, the Select Committee on Mental Health and Addictions and Treasury Board/Management Board of Cabinet.

Sandals first became involved in politics with education issues. She was elected to the local public school board in 1988 and was re-elected four times. She served as chair of the board and was elected as president of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) from 1998 to 2002. She also sat on the board of directors of the Canadian School Boards Association.

In recognition of her work as OPSBA president, she was selected as the first recipient of the “Outstanding Contribution to Education Award” by the Ontario Principals’ Council. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s Centre for Prevention Sciences (London) presented Sandals with their 2009 Fourth R Award in recognition of her leadership on the Safe Schools Action Team and her significant contributions to making Ontario schools safer.

Prior to her election, Sandals worked as a computer programmer analyst and taught computer science at the University of Guelph. Sandals grew up in Guelph and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph and a Masters of mathematics from the University of Waterloo. Sandals and her husband, David, have two children, Richard and Allison, and three grandchildren.

MPP: Hon. Lou Rinaldi - Northumberland-Qunite West

Lord, we thank you for the service of Honourable Lou Rinaldi in Northumberland Quinte. Lou Rinaldi is a dedicated, passionate and tireless advocate for our  communities with a strong record of working for its betterment.  Lou is well-known for his approachable, straightforward and direct manner with his constituents.

Lou has been involved in politics since 1992 as a councilor, deputy reeve and reeve in the former Brighton Township, Mayor of the Municipality of Brighton and Member of Provincial Parliament

Lou has served as the MPP for Northumberland-Quinte West from 2003 to 2011 and was re-elected in 2014. Lou currently serves as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and has previously served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal, and the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. 

Lou was a co-founder and President of the Brighton & District Chamber of Commerce, chair of the Brighton/Trenton Hospital Advisory Committee, member of the Brighton Rotary Club and past chair of the Quinte Economic Development Commission. Lou was a tireless volunteer with minor hockey, a fundraiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Almost Home, United Way, Keystone Community Group, and Northumberland Services for Women.  Lou and the Brighton Speedway have raised tens of thousands of dollars at the annual Northumberland Hospice Challenge.

Born in Italy in 1947, Lou and his family immigrated to Canada in 1960. After graduating high school, Lou obtained is Automotive Technology Diploma from George Brown College.

Lou has been a devoted husband to Diane for 43 years, proud parent of four children and grandparent of nine.  For 33 years they have lived in Brighton where they have owned and operated the Brighton Speedway.

MPP: Hon. Shafiq Qaadri - Etobicoke North

Dr. Qaadri is a strong advocate of quality Public Healthcare, Education, Diversity and a Just Society. He was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2003. He has served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children's Services. In 2006 he was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario's first Minister of Health Promotion.

On October 10, 2007, Dr. Qaadri was re-elected to his second term in the Ontario Provincial Parliament, and re-elected again to his third term in October 2011.  He currently serves as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Government Services.

Dr. Qaadri graduated from Upper Canada College in 1982, and from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1988. During his academic career, he won several scholarships and awards, including an English-Speaking Union Essay Prize to Oxford University, a Canadian National Debating Championship, a Medical Research Council Scholarship in Clinical Neurosurgery, and a Senator Thompson Fellowship to the University of Pennsylvania.

As a physician, the multilingual Dr. Qaadri has published and presented more than 700 articles on a variety of medical topics. He has appeared on more than 1000 radio and television shows. A novelist, he is the author of BIO-JIHAD & the PLEASURE-5 SURGERY, a medical thriller. His non-fiction includes a health manual for men, “THE TESTOSTERONE FACTOR: A Practical Guide to Improving Vitality and Virility, Naturally,” was released in 2006 and is now published in 5 countries and 4 languages. 

Dr. Qaadri and his wife have two children.

He is honoured to be the Member of Provincial Parliament serving the people of Etobicoke North, for whom he is an eloquent and fierce advocate.

Elected in October 2007, Amrit Mangat is the first woman of South Asian heritage to serve as a Member of Provincial Parliament in Ontario.
Representing the riding of Mississauga—Brampton South, Amrit was appointed by the Premier of Ontario as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister Responsible for Seniors in 2007. In September 2010, Mangat was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation. She also serves as a member of the Justice, Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs Policy Cabinet Committee and she is a member of the Standing Committee on General Government. Amrit has also been a member of the Standing Committee on Estimates.

Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1992, Amrit worked as a teacher in India and later obtained her Ontario College of Teachers certification. In addition to teaching occasionally, Amrit managed several small businesses. She most recently worked as a senior administrator in a law firm, helping new Canadians to settle and prosper in Ontario.

She has always been active in the Peel community, volunteering for various organizations such as the Rotary Club and India Rainbow Community Services of Peel. As a former high school teacher, Amrit brings a sincere passion for children to the legislature and continuously advocates to ensure that they receive the best education possible.

As an astute business woman, Amrit brings a strong vision to Queen’s Park that is committed to providing a vibrant and sustainable local economy, a greener environment and a productive labour force that utilizes the skills of new Canadians and recognizes their important contributions to our community.

Amrit holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Master of Arts in Economics, a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Education and she is a former member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Amrit lives in the Region of Peel with her husband Dr. J. S. Mangat, a prominent lawyer.

MPP: Lisa MacLeod - Nepean-Carleton

We pray today for our Member of Provincial Parliament Lisa MacLeod for Nepean-Carleton. Father in Heaven we lift up before your throne Lisa MacLeod, as she serves as M.P.P  in Nepean-Carleton. Give her everything she needs as she serves the people in Ontario. Lisa MacLeod was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in a byelection in 2006. She has continued to represent the Nepean-Carleton riding after the 2007, 2011, 2014 provincial elections. 

Ms. MacLeod is presently the Ontario PC Energy Critic and Francophone Affairs Critic. She serves as Vice Chair of the Legislative Assembly Committee, the Vice Chair of the Quebec-Ontario Parliamentary Friendship Committee and as Ontario’s member on the Canadian Parliamentary Women’s Association. She previously served as Official Opposition Education Critic, Revenue and Accountability Critic, Government and Consumer Affairs Committee and Critic for Children and Youth. Ms. MacLeod was also Vice Chair of the Government Agencies Committee and a member of the Public Accounts Committee.

As an MPP, Ms. MacLeod has championed community safety measures such as child protection legislation and a law clamping down on grow ups. She has been a vocal supporter of Ontario’s Harness Horse Racing industry and a critic of the green energy act. 


Ms. MacLeod authored a cookbook, “I’d Rather Be Baking Cookies: A Collection of Recipes from Lisa MacLeod and Friends”, has enjoyed coaching her daughter in sports and is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, which awarded her the rare Friendship Medal for her work on behalf of veterans.

Before being elected to the Ontario Legislature, Ms. MacLeod served as an advisor to Nepean-Carleton politicians at all three levels of government, spent time as a political commentator on local tv and radio and worked in a management program with Sobeys Inc. She is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, holding a B.A. Honours in Political Science. Ms. MacLeod has studied at the Masters level in Intelligence Studies at American Military University.

Jack went to school at Dirleton, Fitzroy Harbour and Arnprior. He attained the degree of B. Sc. in civil engineering at Queen’s University in 1972. Jack worked in engineering and construction in Vancouver and Calgary for 10 years.

Jack is a cash crop farmer who lives and works on the family farm at MacLaren's Landing in West Carleton Township. The farm was a Crown Grant to the MacLaren family in 1826. 

Jack and his wife Janet have three daughters - Jessica, Rachel and Alexis. Janet and all three girls are Registered Nurses who are working in hospitals in Ottawa, Calgary and San Diego.

The MacLaren family has a long history of being involved in community politics for the purpose of community betterment. Jack's father, grand-father and great grand-father were all politically active. In the MacLaren house it was always understood that with the enjoyment and benefits of a healthy community comes the obligation to contribute to the community.

MPP: Tracy MacCharles - Pickering-Scarborough East

Tracy MacCharles was born and raised in Pickering–Scarborough East. She is a woman who brings people together, actively listens and works with them to achieve results.

Tracy has over 20 years experience in human resources management working in the private, public and not for profit sectors including serving as Vice President of Human Resources, Manulife Financial for the Corporate and Information Technology Divisions. In 2004, she established her own Human Resources practice focused on areas she is most passionate about: health care, community health, education, employment, human rights, discrimination prevention, organizational change and effectiveness.

Tracy has been an active volunteer within her community, as well as at the provincial level for numerous charities including the Canadian Cancer Society, Big Sister’s Association of Ajax-Pickering, United Way and as Chair of her local School Community Council.

Tracy is also a champion for disability advocacy. She is the past Chair of the Ontario Accessibility Standards Advisory Council with a mandate to advise the Minister of Community of Social Services on the implementation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005. Tracy also served on the Durham Board of Education’s Special Education Advisory Committee for over five years. 
Tracy is a recipient of the City of Pickering’s Civic Award and the Volunteer of Distinction Award from Rosebank Road Public School.

Elected to the Ontario Legislature on October 6, 2011, Tracy has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children & Youth Services and Vice-Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Health, Education and Social Policy. In February 2013, Tracy was appointed Minister of Consumer Services, by the new Ontario government.  Minister MacCharles currently serves on the Health, Education and Social Policy and the Legislation and Regulations Cabinet Committees. Tracy holds an interdepartmental honours degree in Business and Public Administration from Brock University.

MPP: Dave Levac - Brant

Father, we thank you for MPP Dave Levac. Thank you for his efforts to seek to improve the quality of life for Ontario residents. Continue to encourage him as he seeks to bring about changes that are important to him. May he also find the time to be revitalized and refreshed by his relationship with family and friends. It's more than just politics to Dave Levac, a dedicated community advocate working hard for his community of Brant.

An elementary and high school teacher for 12 years, Dave became a principal in 1989 and developed an award winning conflict resolution program for his students.

Long dedicated to his community, Dave has worked with many organizations, including the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Parkinson Society of Canada. He also founded the Walter Gretzky C.N.I.B. Celebrity Golf Tournament and the Friends of the Firefighters Committee, which has raised over $75,000 for the County of Brant Fire Department. His extensive community service has been recognized with the Canada 125 Medal, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, an Ontario Service Award and the YMCA Canada Peace Medal.

Dave brought his strong drive for community service to the Ontario legislature in 1999. Re-elected twice, Dave has had a number of private member’s bills successfully pass into law, including the Smoke Free Amendment Act, the Firefighters Memorial Day Act and Sabrina’s Law. He was also awarded the Order of Merit by the Ukrainian president for his work on the Holodomor Memorial Day Act.

Locally, Dave has delivered many results to his community, including a new MRI, a Family Health Team, funding to assist with the clean-up of Greenwich-Mohawk brownfield and investments for the Brantford campuses of Wilfrid Laurier and Nipissing Universities. He is currently the Parliamentary Assistant for Energy, where he helps create new jobs and position Ontario as a clean-energy leader.
Dave and his wife, Rosemarie, live in Brantford. They have three children.

Peterborough is Jeff’s home, where he was born, raised and lives. Jeff understands the needs of Peterborough Riding, how to make Peterborough stronger, vibrant and the best place to call home.
A Kenner Collegiate graduate, Jeff holds an Honours B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Trent University and an Honours degree in Business Administration from the University of Windsor. 

He is married to Karan, an educator and school vice principal, with 2 children Braden and Shanae.

Jeff is committed to delivering positive results for the people of Peterborough Riding. As a Peterborough City Councillor (1985-2003) and Second Deputy Mayor (1993-2003) he worked extensively within local government to facilitate job creation, protect green space, advocate for vulnerable citizens, and support local agriculture.

Jeff has represented Peterborough Riding as an MPP at Queen's Park (2003 – 2013) with strength and well earned respect. He shapes the implementation of public policy as the Chair of the Legislation and Regulations Committee (2008 – present) and, in his role as whip, works closely with the Premier in managing government activities within the legislature.

Currently, Jeff holds the key position of Minister of Rural Affairs (2013-Present) and has also served as Chief Government Whip (2010 - 2012), Parliamentary Assistant in the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs (2007 – 2009), Ministry of the Environment (2006), Ministry of Energy (2005), Ministry of Economic Development (2005), and Ministry of Training, Colleges, & Universities (2004).

As MPP, Jeff’s has used his experience to deliver over $400 million in funding to Peterborough Riding, creating and preserving over 3700 jobs, with investments in infrastructure, transportation, businesses and health care.
