MPP Amrit Mangat Mississauga-Brampton South


Father God thank you for Amrit Mangat for raising her up to serve you in Mississauga-Brampton South. Give her your wisdom and compassion and insight into this area she serves in. Cause her to hear from you and be obedient to what you require of her. Help her to have a personal relationship with you and to be used by you to bring the Kingdom of God where she serves. Protect her and her family and use them to administer Truth, Righteousness and Justice for your glory sake.  In Jesus name I pray for peace and blessing on Amrit. Amen


Elected in October 2007, Amrit Mangat has the distinction of being the first woman of Asian heritage to serve as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) of Ontario.
Representing the riding of Mississauga-Brampton South, Amrit currently serves as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister Responsible for Women's Issues, and the Minister Responsible for Accessibility.
Previously, she served as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Paliamentary Assistant to the Minister Responsible for Seniors, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Consumer Services, and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children and Youth Services.
She currently sits on the Cabinet committee for Jobs and Economy Policy.
Amrit served as a Member of the following Cabinet committees: Legislation and Regulations, Justice, Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs; Poverty Reduction; and Health, Education and Social Policy.
Amrit currently serves on the Standing Committee on Social Policy and the Standing Committee on Government Agencies. Previously, she served on the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills, the Standing Committee on Government Agencies, the Standing Committee of Social Policy, the Standing Committee on Estimates, the Standing Committee on General Government and the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly.
Prior to immigrating to Canada, Amrit worked as a teacher. After moving to Ontario, she obtained her Ontario College of Teachers certification.  In addition to teaching occasionally, Amrit managed several small businesses and worked as a senior administrator in a law firm. 
Amrit has always been politically and socially active.  She brings a sincere passion for education, particularly, education of women and girls, to the Legislature.
As an astute business woman, Amrit brings a strong vision to Queen’s Park that is committed to providing a vibrant and sustainable local economy, a greener environment and a productive labour force that utilizes the skills of new Canadians and recognizes their important contributions.
In 2012, Amrit was honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award for her years of community service and achievement.
Amrit holds Bachelor degrees in political science and education, as well as Masters degrees in both Education and Economics.
Amrit lives in the Region of Peel with her husband, Dr. Jas Mangat, a prominent lawyer.
